The Port de l’Occident Gets Colourful

You’ve probably seen this Art Deco building on the banks of the Saône, and now, the Port de l’Occident has been embellished with a fresco to tell its story. With this artwork, Lyon Confluence and VNF want to showcase this building that bears witness to the city's role as a bustling port.

Under the artistic direction of Maison G, two teams of Lyon-based artists were chosen by Lyon Confluence and VNF:

  • Wand Studio became interested in the architecture of this building, dating from the 1920s. Highlighting the corners, colouring a facade, playing with the movements of the water...
  • With these scenes inspired by archive images, artist Bastien Burcher explores the minutiae of this little urban port’s past life: fishermen, jousting, washerwomen washing their laundry in the port.

You can discover this fresco on the banks of the Saône, on Quai Maréchal Joffre.
