This area in the south of Lyon’s central peninsula, long dedicated to industry and transport, is now undergoing unprecedented urban renewal. Reclaimed from marshland in the 18th and 19th centuries, the riverside site is today regaining its banks and natural environment. The gradual development is enhancing an outstanding space with unique landscapes. It will eventually double Lyon’s city centre – it is thus an urban enterprise of unusual scope in Europe, a great challenge for the metropolitan area, and an opportunity for its residents.
Located in Lyon, La Confluence is one of the largest urban projects in Europe aimed at expanding a city centre. Spread over 150 hectares where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet, the site offers an exceptional environment in the city centre, surrounded by water and hills and with a promenade stretching over 1.5 kilometres along the banks of the Saône. La Confluence results from ambitious plans for transforming the area's vacant industrial land into a showcase of the city of tomorrow :
• Smart and sustainable
• Respecting the environment and biodiversity
• Supporting new forms of mobility and the walkable city
• Distinctive architectural design
• Open to all and promoting social diversity
• Economically and culturally attractive
The 6th edition of the SIATI (Sommet Immobilier, Aménagement des Territoires et Innovation) organized annually by the Leaders League group has, despite the exceptional circumstances, been successfully maintained since it gathered more than 300 participants on October 20, 2020. In the prize list, SPL Lyon Confluence received the prize for the most innovative urban transformation (Developer category).
