Metropole de Lyon elected « French Capital of Biodiversity 2019 »

"Climate: Nature as the source of solutions": Métropole de Lyon receives the 2019 prize for its use of nature-based solutions in its Climate and Canopy Plans to act against climate change and loss of biodiversity

Nature offers positive solutions to address climate change. Métropole de Lyon set ambitious targets in its Climate Plan, in its Urban Master Plan and its Canopy Plan. Among other things, the latter calls for increasing shaded areas. Trees will be planted on a massive scale, thanks to the mobilization of more than 120 public, private and civil society stakeholders brought together as part of Lyon's Charter of the Tree. By 2030, the addition of 300,000 trees will increase the percentage of shaded areas from 27 to 30%.

In La Confluence:

  • 2500 trees today, 4500 tomorrow
  • 5.5 hectares at Le Champ to be covered, including 2.5 hectares of public green spaces after recovering fertile soil for healthy growth of plant life, starting with Station Mue
  • Biodiversity-friendly public spaces
  • Use of renewable energy and bio-based materials
