La Confluence - Lyon's creative heart

As a showcase for an innovating and creative city, La Confluence plays host to key stakeholders in the creative economy, including Lyon's French Tech. If you would like to develop an innovative project the district looks forward to welcoming you.

Two new arrivals to La Confluence set to bolster its creative and digital credentials are the Totem of Lyon French Tech and Hôtel 71. They will be opening at the end of 2017 in the Champ area. French Tech is to take up residence in the former Halle Girard, which has been renovated to provide 3,000 sq. m. for services and 800 sq. m. of event space for use by stakeholders in the digital sector. The district is highly committed to supporting the digital revolution, and sees itself as the Silicon Valley of Greater Lyon. The creative network is growing. It already boasts Arkane a company specialised in video games, the Wild Code School (which offers programming training for future developers) and Clust’R numérique on the Perrache quay. Clust’R’s role? To federate and enhance the software and digital services sector in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region. For more information: www.leclustr.org

International creative influence

Hôtel 71 European & metropolitan creative hub will unite cultural companies through the organisation Arty Farty, which is already established in Sucre - a first for France! Its aim is to support the international economic development of cultural businesses using a model similar to that used by competitiveness, incubation and business acceleration hubs. The dynamic of creativity and innovation that Lyon Confluence is championing is also encouraged by organisations such as Confluence Institute for Innovation and Creative Strategies in Architecture, which moved to the area at the beginning of the 2014 academic year. It will be further bolstered by the Ecoles supérieur des métiers artistiques (ESMA) which provides higher education in artistic professions.

Champ: the home of French Tech

The Halle Girard is being transformed to house Lyon French Tech. The former boiler works will become a showcase for Lyon's digital industry. The renovation work, designed by Vurpas Architectes, combines flexibility, user-friendliness and environmental qualities. The special requirements of a space to house start-ups and developing collaborative projects meant that a specific architectural and planning approach had to be taken. The building will provide coworking spaces, business accelerators and offices. Some of the internal spaces will be evolving and optimised to allow different functions to co-exist. Deliver is planned for the 2nd half of 2017.
